Farewell to a local hero

RIP Charlie Crowe, who's passed away aged 85. A contemporary of Wor Jackie, the long-serving Walker-born-and-bred defender was the last surviving member of our 1951 FA Cup winning side.

Like another local hero who left us last year, though, Charlie won't just be consigned to sepia-tinted memory: his legacy lives on in the form of the appeal he set up to buy a new MRI scanner for research into a range of conditions including Alzheimer's, from which he suffered personally for the last few years of his life.
